[Just like with Noel, Lightning leaves no room for protest in her voice when she contacts Machina a week or so after his visit via crystals. She figured she'd give him a little more space than she did Noel, all things considered. Not only did she barely know the boy, but he'd almost lit their house on fire.

Which is why she suggests a different place entirely when she calls out to him.]

Machina, I want to talk. I'll be at the Hearth all afternoon, come by when you have a few minutes.

[Although with the firmness in her tone, she might as well have said 'get your ass over here now.']

[Color Machina surprised. He was pretty certain after the blowup conversation that everyone in the house hated him. And you don't want to talk to people you hate. At least, that's been his experience with his peers: have a fight, don't speak ever again.

Confused... and curious. His reply is less testy and more hesitant, bleeding his confusion.]

Fine.

[Never let it be said he's not punctual and responsible unless it's a do or die invasion mission he mysteriously vanishes for. The moment he's done with his deliveries work for the day, he shows up silent and dreading the hammer falling again.

He stands just inside the doorway, hand on his hip, flicking his cape with the other. Ready to leave when things get ugly. He's expecting another argument.]

[ Nope. There's no hint of nervousness here. Because you know, Sheena's not going to ask him out on a date or anything like that.

[He can hear something strange in her tone but has no iota what it could be.]

Since the Tree of Memories has not been sufficiently collaborative this far, Izana gives up trying that in frustration, and instead spends a while filling up a small notebook with memories.

And since the holiday is supposed to be one of joy, he focuses on memories where they did not fight at all. In particular, memories of Chichiri.

That time when the chocobo was newly hatched and Machina got to hold her for the first time and name her.

That one time when Machina came to the chocobo farm to visit, and Chichiri made a pest of herself and would not let him go back, or tried to.

The first time Machina got to ride her.

Things like that.

Machina gets delivered a pair of beautiful notebooks 'to write memories in,' as well as a big box of ice cream. The latter, he can share with housemates or not as he wishes.

[Twenty-four hours after their conversation, Ace repays the sleep-time call.] Hey, you know that song I always sing? Do you know the rest of it? [It may be payback but it's also him wondering if Machina is suddenly crystal. Don't be in crystal stasis, jerk.]

[Seriously dude? He just got the baby duckling to sleep. Jerk.]

Are you kidding me?

[Don't you just wish he was in stasis? Not getting the satisfaction.]

What's the matter? Can't sleep without your mommy to sing you a lullaby?

So it's been a week since I found you crystallized in the market and got you back to your house. The stickers and sunglasses were all Sheena's idea, by the way. Though Izana's been taking them off of you and collecting them for when you wake up. Way to go on freaking him out. You have exceptionally poor timing.

Don't worry, I've been keeping him company so he doesn't hole himself up in your room with your crystal statue. Your girlfriend too. Roxas says you can't see or hear anything while in this state and I have to believe it, otherwise you'd be yelling at me to get out of your room constantly. Still at night I make certain to place a towel over your head so you don't watch us sleep. That's just creepy.

Hope you're having a good sleep.

Roxas told me that people usually are only crystallized for a month at the longest but you haven't woken up yet. Maybe he was wrong or maybe I should give you another day or two. People don't seem to know why this happens or what determines the length of time. For Izana's sake, I hope you don't sleep forever.

Since he insists on keeping you in the room and you'd probably kill me for sleeping in yours, I just sleep in Izana's bed most of the time. It almost feels like I'm starting to live here with how many nights I stay over. So if you want me to get out, you'll have to wake up first.

Just so you know, Izana's doing a lot better physically. I made sure he didn't strain himself too much until he was better healed. No dangerous tasks or climbing through caves. Shortly after you were crystallized, some bugs started taking crops and scaring animals. Apparently their Queen was responsible for feeding them but she suddenly disappeared. Some people went to go find her and the food crisis was adverted.

Another month has gone by and you still haven't woken. Congradulations, I think you might officially be the one Otherworlder who's been crystallized this long. Are you trying to set a record? Please don't. Izana will only worry about you even more.

I think I've accidentally moved in. I haven't been back to my place for a couple of weeks now, not even to pick anything up. All of it's somehow ended up here. Actually, I'm not sure I even have a place anymore seeing as how I forgot to pay this month's rent. Oh well. There are always other places to stay.

After two months, I finally got Izana to go take a little trip somewhere. Just for a couple of days to go visit Theasthai for a bit of rest and relaxation. I think it did him some good. Because we were away, we missed out on some spring event. Which is a shame because it looked like people had fun while we were away.

I guess it's technically my eighteenth birthday today. It feels weird to not be able to celebrate it with my siblings and Mother. Not that we did anything special but she would make us a nice meal and we'd all eat together. I miss them.

So Izana and I took an extended trip to Briarlan to see some of the sights. That was an interesting experience. There was a lot of things to see and I don't think we managed to visit them all. Maybe we'll go back one day to keep exploring. That would be nice.

I've known the truth from the moment I arrived in this world about you. After giving it a lot of thought, I can guess why you didn't tell us. That maybe it wasn't just because you were angry with us. With me in particular.

The others didn't have anything to do with Izana's death, just so you know. It was only me. I was the only one who knew, who asked Mother if he could come with me on my first mission. So don't be angry with them about it anymore.

And I don't care what you are so you don't have to worry about that either.

So you've been crystallized for an entire year now. Not really sure what to say to that. Izana is still here and Chichiri (the elder) has laid another dozen eggs. Her older ones have really grown up fine, though a couple of them are definitely troublemakers.

Izana and I are have been dating almost three months now and it's great. We sort of accidentally ended up living together and I like it. The house is always pretty lively so it almost feels like I have a bunch of new siblings.

A couple of cities on the surface have been discovered - one abandoned and one not - and we almost got crushed by the giant crab Arehtei once. We managed to stop it and have slowly been rebuilding since then. Otherwise things have been about the same as usual. Small things really. It'll be better to save that for when you wake up.

So there were a bunch of other letters but somehow they got moved and accidentally caught on fire. Okay, it wasn't exactly an accident and they might have just been the unfortunate victim of wayward Dunamis. Don't ask, I'll tell you after you've adjusted.

Right, it's been thirty-three years since you became crystallized. Despite everything we still use that term even though we don't think that's all it is anymore. And we does mean me and Izana, both of us are here after all of these years. Most of the world is healed now and at the end, we were asked if we wanted to stay or go. Both of us chose to stay here together. With you.

After about five years we sort of took in some kids, and ended up adopting them. We'll introduce you when you finally wake up since most of them are native and should still be around. Izana's told them all kinds of stories about their uncle and they liked to draw you pictures when they were younger. Sometimes insisted you sit at the dining room table with us, especially during the holidays. Even to this day, they keep up with including you. So if you wake up by the dining room table or with decorations on you, that's why. Sorry.

Chichiri didn't lay anymore eggs but her kids sure did. So did the duck. We kept naming one Chichiri, giving the others away when they were old enough. I'm pretty sure the one we have now is Chichiri the seventh? Though I might be off by one. No, Izana says this is the eighth now. Not sure how I missed that.

Since we stayed, we bought this house and the land it sits on and put it in your name. After the kids moved out we wanted a smaller place so this one is yours now. We visit you a lot and spend all of our holidays here. Hope you don't mind.

I'm sure you'll have a lot of questions when you wake up. Hopefully we'll be around to answer them.
